1 out of 5 stars HP!? Never again!   September 1, 2010

I purchased my HP Mini in March as a replacement to my Acer I recently gave away to a foster kid that had the highest GPA. Well I want my Acer back. HP is a joke. Pricer than my Acer Aspire but clearly a lower quality. Acer keyboad was roomier and easier to use. I don't even want to get started on HP touch pad mouse. It is the WORSE! Had my Acer for a year, and it went everywhere! Scotland, England, Peru and back to humid Miami. It stayed in its sleeve and in the purse. This HP didn't last two months. Thankfully, there is a warranty. Had to wait 2 weeks for a hard drive an additonal week for the software. The tickler is the old hard drive had to be sent back in the within THREE (3) business days of delivery or I was going to be billed $150 for the replacement. Well the unit came and I placed the call to HP to be walked through how to switch the two out. It took a two days of calling and hanging up until I found a technician whose accent was thick and speech was comprehensible. That was last night at 9:30 pm.

Not an electronics girl none of the 6 screwdrivers I own fit the small screws so I was told to go knock on neighbors door or go buy a small set. I waited until I got to work and borowed a coworkers eyeglass kit. Then it was another a series of call, only 3 this time to get a tech with clear speech. I am now at over 45 minutes in to a call and things aren't looking good. The tech doesn't have true step-by-step instruction and I am yanking and pulling on things I am not sure I should.

All this makes me appreciate my recent call to Magnox for a techincal issue. I go a friendly guy from the good old midwest who had me off the line, tv working and happy in less than 10 minutes.

Never again HP! Not even for a printer!!

1 out of 5 stars No mini for me   September 1, 2010

The HP mini was a great disappointment. Three things: USB ports on right side of computer are set so close together that you cannot use 2 USB ports at the same time. (That's 2) Third, the on-off switch needs long strong fingernails to push the tiny button on. A toggle switch would have been fine. I sent it back. :-(

5 out of 5 stars I love my netbook   August 30, 2010

I'm not a technical guy (geek), so this isn't a technical review. What I can tell you is that I use my netbook a lot, mainly for video messaging, MSN video messenger. It handles the video with no problem. The webcam works great. I usually use a set of earbuds with microfone when video messaging which give better volume . I use the same ones I use for my iphone; they plug in to the left side of the netbook. I have relatively big hands with fat fingers, but the keyboard feels good to me. The netbook is great for traveling. I can pull it out in the airport and video message with my fiance easily. I've never tried to run the battery for 9 hrs (as advertised), but my experience is that it is good for at least 7 hrs, if not more. I know you don't constantly have to be looking for an outlet. I just ordered an external cd/dvd drive (from Amazon of course!) to make the netbook more useful. With the SD card slot I easily load my pictures. I downloaded iTunes and it works well. Bottom line, I love my HP Mini 210-184NR netbook and wonder why I own another bigger laptop at times. To me the value is incredible at only $300.
